The Monument Avenue Old Historic District was established to preserve the historic architectural elements of the homes, buildings and public spaces along the Avenue. Monument Avenue is one of only a few streets in the United States to be named a national historic landmark. The historic district reaches from Birch Street to Roseneath and includes Allen and Davis Avenue to the immediate south and north of Monument Avenue. Historic Monument Avenue (HMA) advocates for residents along Monument Avenue on a variety of topics.
The purpose of HMA is:
- Encouraging protection, restoration and orderly development of Richmond’s Monument Avenue Old and Historic District.
- To welcome new neighbors, provide helpful information, and to assist property owners in reviewing proposed architectural changes, additions, and renovations to buildings in the city’s Old and Historic District and make recommendations to the city’s Commission for Architectural Review (CAR).
- To provide a voice to and promote the welfare of our residents through social, civic and educational endeavors.
